Frequently "Axe'd" Questions

  • What is Axe Throwing?
    Axe throwing is a sport that involves competitors throwing an axe at a target, trying to get as close as they can to the bullseye. At Splitting Targets you and your friends will spend 1 to 1.5 up to 2 hours learning, practicing and then finally squaring off toe to toe in a group tournament that will result in the crowning of an Axe Throwing Champion. Our Axe Throwing sessions are run by trained experts who will show you how to safely handle an axe and chuck it with accuracy while giving you plenty of tips along the way.
  • Is Axe Throwing Safe?
    Yes. Throwing axes is similar to other target sports. Provided that participants follow the instructions and safety rules explained by our Axe Coaches and use common sense, throwing an axe is safe. Our experienced and highly trained staff are in the throwing arena with you at all times and monitor your throws for safety and guide you through the entire process. Only participants that have gone through our safety course are allowed to enter the throwing arena. There is no passing of axes between players and players must follow specific instructions from their Axe Coach.
  • Will someone teach me how to throw an axe?
    Absolutely! You will be with an Axe Coach at all times. The first few minutes of your experience is spent learning the safety rules and procedures of how to handle an axe. With proper instruction, practice and by following our guided procedures, you will be able to safely throw an axe by the end of your session.
  • Do I need Reservations?
    Reservations are not required, however we strongly encourage it to guarantee there is a lane available.
  • How many people can participate?
    There can be up to 6 participants per target, and our facility has eight targets for a total of 48 people total at one time.
  • How much does it cost and how long can we throw for?
    The cost varies by time (60 min,90 mins & 2 hours) and often includes a small processing fee. *60 mins - $20 Per Thrower *90 mins - $28 Per Thrower *120 mins - $35 Per Thrower
  • Is there an age limit?
    Our faciltiy is family friendly. However throwers must be 10 years and older to take part in axe throwing. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Will there other people in my lane?
    You will have a private lane for your group. You will never be grouped with other people.
  • Can I bring my own food and drink?
    Our food policy depends on if you are having a private event. You can bring snacks, cater in food and finger foods at the facility for a private event. There is no food currently served onsite at our location in the winter months. We do not allow outside alcohol or drinks at our facility. Anyone who appears intoxicated will not be able to throw axes at our ranges. No one under the age of 21 is allowed to consume alcohol on our property.
  • Can I tip my Axe Coach?
    Yes! Tips are always appreciated but not necessarily necessary.
